Month by Month: August Juneau AK

Do you have big vacation plans this summer? Can I come along? For many of us, August finds us on the go after a more laid-back summer. We're squeezing in those last vacation days and flitting to and from the store for back-to-school supplies. As you travel, though, don't neglect where you're starting from.

Month by Month: August

Month by Month: August

by Amanda Probst

BE MOVED. Do you have big vacation plans this summer? Can I come along? For many of us, August finds us on the go after a more laid-back summer. We're squeezing in those last vacation days and flitting to and from the store for back-to-school supplies. As you travel, though, don't neglect where you're starting from.

This month's layout from my Month-by-Month Scrapbooking book is one of my absolute favorites. For one thing, it features 409 photos. Yes, really. I printed most of them as small contact-print sized images and used the photos as background patterned paper on a dare from my fabulous book contributors who didn't think I could fit that many photos on a layout. (I had been lamenting to them about having to pick just a few and wishing I could use them all.) The other reason I love this layout, though, is that it was intentional. That particular summer, a "real" vacation wasn't in the cards for our family, so we opted to take a day and make our own vacation . . . acting like tourists in our hometown. I love that we took the opportunity to do things we might otherwise have missed, and we learned more about our hometown in the process.

Here are three more ideas to consider this August:

1. Ride a coaster. I love roller coasters! August seems a perfect month for heading to an amusement park. Challenge yourself to capture the pure exhilaration of park rides . . . and try not to get sick, okay?

2. List places you've lived. As you head out on vacation this month, don't forget where you've been. Though I still hope to make a mini album one of these days about all the places I've lived, a single layout listing them will do for now.

3. Go to Graceland. Okay, maybe not actually. But the second week of August is Elvis Week (who knew?). While Graceland isn't on my list of dream-vacation destinations, stop and consider places you've thought about going to but haven't yet. Making a list or layout is definitely a start.

It's challenge time again! For August, I challenge you to scrapbook your own hometown. Make a mini album. Make a single layout. I don't care how you scrapbook it-just document it! Join in the fun, and you'll have the opportunity to win a copy of my book, Month-by-Month Scrapbooking ! Find out more at the Month-by-Month Scrapbooking group .
