Month by Month: July Lenoir NC

July is Anti-Boredom Month. Who knew? If your kids are like mine, this is about the point in the summer when they start complaining about a lack of things to do. I've started making a list of ideas and am thinking about putting them into a jar to draw from, or placing them on a spinner, or perhaps even creating a big bull's-eye with foam darts. What do you do to combat boredom?

Month by Month: July

BE AMAZED. Sure, fireworks are pretty dang cool. But what else amazes you this July? Personally, I find the unending energy of young boys constantly amazing. The beauty of summer evenings and the freedoms we enjoy here in the United States rank up there, too. This July, take a moment to stop and allow yourself to truly be amazed. Life really is cool.

My layout pick for July, which comes from my Month-by-Month Scrapbooking book , features some of my favorite pictures. I can't believe I never noticed before how utterly fabulous a child's face is when chasing bubbles. These particular photos started out with me trying to take some pictures of the boys in their new cowboy hats, and they ended up being pure delight. (By the way, it's difficult to tell, but some of these circles are actually holes in the page with clear transparencies in place to hold the pictures . . . very bubble-like.)

Here are three more ideas to consider this July:

1. Journal big moments. Do you remember when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon on July 20, 1969? What are some other monumental dates you've experienced? Have you journaled about them? Even if you don't have any personal photos of the event, future generations will appreciate your thoughts and stories.

2. Combat boredom.

3. Imagine the power. As we celebrate the birth of our nation, consider what you would have done had you been one of the Founding Fathers. What unalienable rights do you hold dear . . . life, liberty, the pursuit of scrapbook supplies?

Now for challenge time. For July, I challenge you to capture fascination . . . be it in the face of a child chasing bubbles, in the eyes of your significant other riding a giant roller-coaster or in the look your neighbor gives you during a fireworks display.
